THE ANCHOR
OF YOUR SOUL IS THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.
(Hebrews 6:19) Which hope we have as an anchor of
the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
(Hebreo 6:19) Na ating inaring tulad sa sinepete ng kaluluwa, isang pagasa na matibay
at matatag at pumapasok sa nasa loob ng tabing;
Si Cristo bilang sinepete ay upang maging matatag ang Cristiano sa
kanilang buhay Cristiano.
1. That Christian cannot be moved in times of troubles
(Psalms 46:5) God is in the midst of her; she
shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.
2. That Christians are strong in Jesus Christ.
(Philippians 4:13) I can do all things through Christ
which strengtheneth me.
3. That Christians are seeking God first in their Christian life.
(Matthew 6:33) But seek ye first the kingdom of
God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
4. That Christians are always in Jesus Christ.
(Colossians 1:27) To whom God would make known what
is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ
in you, the hope of glory:
5. That Christians always enjoy the presence and power of the Holy
Spirit in their Christian life.
(John 16:13) Howbeit when he, the Spirit of
truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of
himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew
you things to come.
I. CHRIST OUR ANCHOR: HE IS OUR
LOVING GOD.
(John 3:16) For God so loved the world, that
he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not
perish, but have everlasting life.
1. Christ loves even the most wicked person in the world: The criminal on
the cross of Calvary.
(Luke 23:42–43) [42] And he said unto Jesus, Lord,
remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
[43] And Jesus said unto him,
Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
2. Christ loves even the most adulterous woman in their community: The
Samaritan woman.
(John 4:4–7) [4] And he must needs go through
Samaria.
[5] Then cometh he to a city of
Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave
to his son Joseph.
[6] Now Jacob's well was there.
Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it
was about the sixth hour.
[7] There cometh a woman of
Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
3. Christ loves the corrupt official in their community: Zacchaeus.
(Luke 19:8–9) [8] And Zacchaeus stood, and said
unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I
have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.
[9] And Jesus said unto him, This
day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.
4. Christ loves even the most religious person, yet lost, in the community:
Nicodemus.
(John 3:1–7) [1] There was a man of the
Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
[2] The same came to Jesus by
night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God:
for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
[3] Jesus answered and said unto
him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see
the kingdom of God.
[4] Nicodemus saith unto him, How
can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his
mother's womb, and be born?
[5] Jesus answered, Verily,
verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he
cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
[6] That which is born of the
flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
[7] Marvel not that I said unto
thee, Ye must be born again.
5. Christ loves all lost people in the world.
(Matthew 9:35–38) [35] And Jesus went about all the
cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of
the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
[36] But when he saw the
multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and
were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
[37] Then saith he unto his
disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
[38] Pray ye therefore the Lord of
the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
II. CHRIST OUR ANCHOR: HE IS OUR ONLY
MEDIATOR TO GOD THE FATHER AND MAN.
(1 Timothy 2:5) For there is one God, and one
mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
1. Christ is our Anchor, the only mediator of the local church to God the
Father.
(Acts 1:13–15) [13] And when they were come in,
they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John,
and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of
Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.
[14] These all continued with one
accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of
Jesus, and with his brethren.
[15] And in those days Peter stood
up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were
about an hundred and twenty,)
2. Jerusalem Church prayed for great revival in their Community and godly
leaders were filled by the Holy Spirit and multitudes of souls got saved.
(Acts 6:1–7) [4] But we will give ourselves
continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
[5] And the saying pleased the
whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy
Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and
Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:
[6] Whom they set before the
apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
[7] And the word of God increased;
and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great
company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
3. Paul and Silas prayed for the salvation of the chief Warden and God
answered:
(Acts 16:25–31) [25] And at midnight Paul and
Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
[26] And suddenly there was a
great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and
immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.
[27] And the keeper of the prison
awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his
sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been
fled.
[28] But Paul cried with a loud
voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.
[29] Then he called for a light,
and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,
[30] And brought them out, and
said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
[31] And they said, Believe on the
Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Jesus Christ is the anchor of the
Church and God promises to answer our prayers because Christ is the only
mediator between God and man in our prayers to God.
(Jeremiah 33:3) Call unto me, and I will answer
thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
(2 Chronicles 7:14) If my people, which are called by
my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from
their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin,
and will heal their land.
III. CHRIST OUR ANCHOR: HE IS OUR
CARING GOOD SHEPHERD.
(Psalm 23:1–6)
1. King David made Christ his Anchor, and he was satisfied.
[1] The LORD is my shepherd; I
shall not want.
2. King David enjoyed green pastures from Christ as the Anchor of his soul.
[2] He maketh me to lie down in
green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3. King David restored his strength in his Christian life through Christ as
the Anchor of his soul.
[3] He restoreth my soul: he
leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4. King David was well protected by the Lord Jesus Christ as the Anchor of
his soul.
[4] Yea, though I walk through the
valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy
rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5. King David enjoyed the presence of Christ as the Anchor of his soul in
times of threats and enemies.
[5] Thou preparest a table before
me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup
runneth over.
6. The Anchor of the soul of the Christian, which the Lord Jesus promised:
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days in the house of the Lord
forever.
[6] Surely goodness and mercy
shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the
LORD for ever.
IV. CHRIST IS OUR ANCHOR: HE IS OUR
PERFECT REFUGE IN TIME OF TROUBLES.
(Psalm 91:1–10)
1. Christ our perfect refuge gave us the assurance to deliver us from the
snares of the fowler and from noisome pestilence. (Verse 3)
[1] He that dwelleth in the secret
place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
[2] I will say of the LORD, He is
my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
[3] Surely he shall deliver thee
from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
2. Christ our perfect refuge will cover us with His feathers to protect us
from the attacks of our spiritual enemy, the devil. (Verses 4–6)
[4] He shall cover thee with his
feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield
and buckler.
[5] Thou shalt not be afraid for
the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
[6] Nor for the pestilence that
walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
3. Christ our perfect refuge will protect us from thousands and tens of
thousands of spiritual enemies that are ready to discourage and defeat us in
our spiritual battle.
[7] A thousand shall fall at thy
side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
[8] Only with thine eyes shalt
thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
[9] Because thou hast made the
LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
[10] There shall no evil befall
thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
V. CHRIST OUR ANCHOR: HE IS OUR BEST
FRIEND IN THE CHRISTIAN LIFE.
(John 15:13–16)
1. Christ our best friend promoted the Christian to be friends and not as
servants.
(John 15:13–15) [13] Greater love hath no man than
this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
[14] Ye are my friends, if ye do
whatsoever I command you.
[15] Henceforth I call you not
servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called
you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known
unto you.
2. Christ called His best friends part of the holy nation and a peculiar
people of God.
(1 Peter 2:9–10) [9] But ye are a chosen
generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye
should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into
his marvellous light:
[10] Which in time past were not a
people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now
have obtained mercy.
3. Christ's best friends are now partners of Christ in His ministry.
(John 15:16) [16] Ye have not chosen me, but I
have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and
that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my
name, he may give it you.
(1 Corinthians
3:8–10) [8] Now he
that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own
reward according to his own labour.
[9] For we are labourers together
with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.
[10] According to the grace of God
which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation,
and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth
thereupon.
VI. CHRIST IS OUR ANCHOR: HE IS OUR
GOOD MODEL WHOSE STEPS WE FOLLOW.
(1 Peter 2:21) 1Pet 2:21 For even hereunto were ye called: because
Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his
steps:
1. We follow Christ's model as the Light of the world in a wicked world.
(Matthew 5:16) Let your light so shine before
men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in
heaven.
2. We follow Christ's model in glorifying God in our lives.
(John 17:1–5) [1] These words spake Jesus, and
lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy
Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
[2] As thou hast given him power
over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given
him.
[3] And this is life eternal, that
they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
[4] I have glorified thee on the
earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
[5] And now, O Father, glorify
thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the
world was.
3. We follow Christ's model of faithfully worshipping God during the Lord’s
day.
(Acts 2:46–47) [46] And they, continuing daily
with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat
their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
[47] Praising God, and having
favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as
should be saved.
4. We follow His walk of holiness in this wicked and sinful world.
(1 Peter 1:15–16) [15] But as he which hath called
you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
[16] Because it is written, Be ye
holy; for I am holy.
(2 Timothy 2:21) If a man therefore purge himself
from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the
master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
