CHALLENGE TO ALL CHRISTIANS TO INVEST IN HEAVENLY
THINGS FOR THE WORK OF GOD
( Colossians 3:1–2 ) [1] If ye
then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ
sitteth on the right hand of God.
[2] Set your affection on things above, not on
things on the earth.
INTRODUCTION:
Paul
challenged the Colossian Church to invest in heavenly things to ensure we can
accomplish great things in the work of the Lord.
Paul
did not mention a specific amount to invest because it is not only money we can
give to the work of the Lord. We can also invest our Time, Talent, and
Treasures received from Him.
What
are those heavenly things we can invest in?
a. Precious souls we win to Christ
b. Our faithfulness in supporting the Lord's work with our
financial blessings
c. The talents God has given us to serve Him
d.Our good, Christlike testimony to others
1. GOD IS PLEASED WHEN CHRISTIANS INVEST IN HEAVENLY
THINGS.
God
commanded us to invest in heavenly things. Always remember that God is pleased
with Christians who faithfully support the work of the Lord financially.
( Colossians 3:1–2 ) [1] If ye
then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ
sitteth on the right hand of God.
[2] Set your affection on things above, not on
things on the earth.
2. GOD
WILL PROTECT THE THINGS WE INVEST IN HEAVEN.
( Matthew 6:19–21 ) [19] Lay
not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt,
and where thieves break through and steal:
[20] But lay up for yourselves treasures in
heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not
break through nor steal:
[21] For where your treasure is, there will your
heart be also.
3. GOD
WILL MULTIPLY THE THINGS WE INVEST IN HEAVEN.
( 2 Corinthians 9:6–11 ) [6] But
this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which
soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
[7] Every man according as he purposeth in his
heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a
cheerful giver.
[8] And God is able to make all grace abound
toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to
every good work:
[9] (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad;
he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.
[10] Now he that ministereth seed to the sower
both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase
the fruits of your righteousness;)
[11] Being enriched in every thing to all
bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.
4. GOD WILL HELP AND SUPPORT YOU IN LIFE BECAUSE YOU
SUPPORT THE WORK OF THE LORD.
Giving
our treasures and blessings to God will be rewarded by Him.
( Malachi 3:10–12 )
( 2 Corinthians 9:8–11 ) [8] And God
is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all
sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
[9] (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad;
he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.
[10] Now he that ministereth seed to the sower
both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase
the fruits of your righteousness;)
[11] Being enriched in every thing to all
bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.
5. GOD
WILL TOUCH OTHERS IN THE LOCAL CHURCH THROUGH YOUR GOOD EXAMPLE OF INVESTING IN
HEAVENLY THINGS.
Following
the steps of the Lord Jesus Christ clearly shows that your life is a great
blessing to others inside the local church.
( 1 Peter 2:21 )
( Philippians 4:15–20 ) [15] Now ye
Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed
from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and
receiving, but ye only.
[16] For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and
again unto my necessity.
[17] Not because I desire a gift: but I desire
fruit that may abound to your account.
[18] But I have all, and abound: I am full, having
received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a
sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.
[19] But my God shall supply all your need
according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
[20] Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever
and ever. Amen.
May
God bless you all always.
