WHAT DID PAUL
MEAN BY SERVING THE LORD WITH HUMILITY OF MIND?
Humility: Humbleness, lowliness, meekness, modesty
ACTS 20:19–24 "Serving
the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which
befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews: And how I kept back nothing that
was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publicly, and
from house to house, Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks,
repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. And now, behold,
I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall
befall me there: Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that
bonds and afflictions abide me. But none of these things move me, neither count
I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the
ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the
grace of God."
INTRODUCTION
a.
Paul was a clear model of a sincere and fully committed Christian in the
ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ.
b.
Many great followers of Christ took up his path because of his deep dedication
and down-to-earth humility while serving God.
1 THESSALONIANS 2:10 "Ye
are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved
ourselves among you that believe:"
Paul’s
life made a profound impact on many who followed his example in faithful
service to God.
1 TIMOTHY 1:12 "And I
thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me
faithful, putting me into the ministry;"
FOUR (4) WAYS TO UNDERSTAND SERVING THE LORD WITH
HUMILITY
I. IT MEANS WITNESSING ABOUT THE LORD JESUS CHRIST TO
OTHERS

ACTS 20:19 "Serving
the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which
befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:"
a.
Paul’s concern for lost people came from the heart.
ROMANS 10:1 — "Brethren,
my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be
saved."
b.
Paul’s ambition was to be a servant to all so he could win more souls.
1 CORINTHIANS 9:20–22 — "And
unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are
under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
To them that are without law, as without law... that I might gain them that are
without law."
c. Paul’s
consistency in soul-winning was proven by reaching people everywhere—publicly
and from house to house.
ACTS 20:21 — "Testifying
both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith
toward our Lord Jesus Christ."
II. IT
MEANS WORKING FOR THE LORD WITH HUMILITY OF HEART

ACTS 20:19 "Serving
the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which
befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:"
a.
Serving with humility means facing obstacles without letting persecution stop
us from glorifying God.
b.
Serving God often requires tears as we labor to reap precious souls for His
Kingdom.
PSALM 126:5–6 — "They
that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing
precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves
with him."
c.
Serving the Lord takes hard, intentional work to fulfill the Great Commission.
JOHN 9:4–5 — "I
must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh,
when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the
world."
III.
IT MEANS WALKING WITH THE LORD FAITHFULLY AND WITHOUT COMPLAINING

nang may katapatan, pagpapakumbaba, at walang anumang dahilan upang magreklamo
sa Diyos.)
ACTS 20:22–23 "And
now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things
that shall befall me there: Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city,
saying that bonds and afflictions abide me."
a.
Paul faced constant threats against his life, yet he never complained to God.
ACTS 20:24 — "But
none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that
I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of
the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God."
b.
Paul even faced the sentence of death, but he never stopped walking with God.
2 CORINTHIANS 1:8–9 — "For
we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in
Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we
despaired even of life: But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we
should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:"

Paul endured countless trials, yet he refused to be discouraged.
2 CORINTHIANS 6:8–10 — "By
honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet
true; As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as
chastened, and not killed; As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet
making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things."
IV. IT
MEANS FULLY DEVOTING ONESELF UNTO THE LORD UNTIL HIS COMING

2 TIMOTHY 4:7–8 "I
have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord,
the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto
all them also that love his appearing."
To Devote / Wallow: To yield oneself entirely to the
Lord's calling.
ACTS 20:24 "But
none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that
I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of
the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God."
a.
Paul’s entire life was completely surrendered and devoted to God’s calling.
ACTS 20:19 — "Serving
the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which
befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:"
b.
Paul lived as a clear example for other believers to follow.
PHILIPPIANS 3:17 — "Brethren,
be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an
ensample."
1 CORINTHIANS 11:1 — "Be ye
followers of me, even as I also am of Christ."
c.
Paul set out to complete his God-given calling with joy until the end.
ACTS 20:24 — "But
