THE GREAT
BENEFITS OF FEARING GOD TO A CHRISTIAN FAMILY INSIDE THE LOCAL CHURCH
Introduction:
THE
WORD OF GOD IS THE VERY SOURCE OF FEARING GOD OF GOD'S PEOPLE
( Proverbs 9:10 ) “The fear
of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is
understanding.
*Basically,
this verse teaches that the fear of God is foundational to true wisdom; all
other types of learning are worthless unless built upon a knowledge of the Lord
Himself.
*Many other passages talk about the fear of
the Lord:
Psalm 111:10: "The
fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they
that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever."
Proverbs 1:7: "The
fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and
instruction."
Proverbs 14:27: "The
fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of
death."
Proverbs 15:33: "The
fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is
humility."
*Before
we can understand how the fear of the Lord leads to wisdom, we need to define
what the Bible means by “fear” in this context.
Psalms 128:1-6 [1] Blessed
is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.
[2]For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands:
happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.
[3]Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the
sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.
[4]Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that
feareth the LORD.
[5]The LORD shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou
shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.
[6]Yea, thou shalt see thy children's children,
and peace upon Israel.
THE
GREAT BENEFITS OF FEARING GOD FOR OUR CHRISTIAN FAMILY
1. GOD'S GREAT CONCERN IS TO RAISE OUR CHILDREN OF THE
FEAR OF GOD.
Psalm 34:11 Come, you
children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
*Parents
must actively partner with the local church’s children's ministry to
intentionally teach biblical reverence at home and in Sunday school, ensuring
that faith is passed down to the next generation.
2. GOD'S
GREAT DESIGN THE HEAD OF THE FAMILY THE FATHER TO BE A GOD-FEARING FAMILY
LEADER.
( Psalms 128:1-4 ) 1. Blessed
is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.
*When
a father steps up to lead his family in worship, church attendance, and daily
prayer, he builds a secure spiritual foundation that causes his wife and
children to thrive like a fruitful vine and olive plants.
3. GREAT
BLESSING OF LONG LIFE ARE PROMISE TO THOSE WHO FEAR GOD.
( Ecclesiastes 8:12 ) Though a
sinner does evil a hundred times, and his days are prolonged, yet I surely know
that it will be well with those who fear God, who fear before Him.
*Fearing
God protects the family from the destructive and deadly traps of sin, leading
to a long, peaceful, and spiritually fulfilling life under God's favor.
4. GREAT
BLESSING OF GOD'S ADVANCE REVELATION OF HIS WILL TO HIS SERVANT.
( Psalm 25:14 ) The secret
of the LORD is with those who fear Him, And He will show them His covenant.
( John 15:13-15 ) [13]Greater
love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
[14]Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I
command you.
[15]Henceforth I call you not servants; for the
servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all
things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
*Christian
families who honor God receive divine guidance and wisdom for major life
decisions, as the Holy Spirit reveals the Lord's specific path and will to
them.
5. THE
GREAT GOODNESS OF GOD EXPERIENCE BY THOSE CHRISTIANS WHO FEAR GOD ALWAYS.
( Psalm 31:19: ) “Oh how
great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which
thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!”
*The
local church serves as a beautiful setting where families can openly share
testimonies and witness the stored-up blessings and goodness that God pours out
on those who remain faithful to Him.
6. THE
GREAT GOD'S MERCY ENJOY BY PEOPLE IN MANY WAYS.
Psalm 103:11-14 11.For as
the heavens are high above the earth,x
12.So great is His mercy toward those who fear
Him;
13.As far as the east is from the west,
14 .So far has He removed our transgressions from
us.
As a father pities his children,
So the LORD pities those who fear Him.
For He knows our frame;
*Because
God remembers our human weaknesses, a God-fearing family can always run to Him
for complete forgiveness, healing, and compassionate mercy whenever they fall
short.
7.
THE GREAT PROTECTION OF GOD FOR THOSE WHO SHOWED FEARING
GOD.
( Proverbs 14:26-27 ) In the fear
of the LORD there is strong confidence,
And His children will have a place of refuge.
The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life,
To turn one away from the snares of death.
( Psalms 91:1-10 ) [1]He that
dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of
the Almighty.
[2]I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my
fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
[3]Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of
the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
[4]He shall cover thee with his feathers, and
under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
[5]Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by
night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
[6]Nor for the pestilence that walketh in
darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
[7]A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten
thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
[8]Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see
the reward of the wicked.
[9]Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my
refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
[10]There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall
any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
*True
reverence for God removes all worldly anxieties and fear of the future,
establishing the home as a spiritual fortress where no evil or plague can
destroy the family's peace.
Conclusion:
In
conclusion, the fear of the Lord is not a paralyzing terror, but a deep, loving
reverence for our Creator that serves as the ultimate anchor for the Christian
home.
When a
family commits to walking in God's ways within the local church, they unlock
His greatest promises: wise children, godly parental leadership, long life,
divine revelation, abundant goodness, tender mercy, and absolute protection.
By
anchoring our households firmly in the Word of God, we ensure that our families
remain vibrant, protected, and deeply blessed for generations to come.
* God
bless you all always *
