GOD'S
PEOPLE'S DELIGHT IN THE LAW OF THE LORD
Psalms 1:1-3 [1]Blessed
is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the
way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
[2]But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and
in his law doth he meditate day and night.
[3]And he shall be like a tree planted by the
rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also
shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
Introduction
a. True
joy and fulfillment for a believer are not found in the shifting values of the
world, but in a life rooted deeply in God's truth.
b. When
we anchor our hearts in His Word, our desires begin to align with His purpose.
Six (6)
vital areas where God’s people find their ultimate delight, leading to a life
that is spiritually fruitful, stable, and deeply blessed:
1. GOD'S PEOPLE’S DELIGHT IN MEDITATING ON AND OBSERVING
THE WORD OF GOD IN THEIR CHRISTIAN LIFE.
Psalms 1:2 But his
delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and
night.
*Delight
grows through consistency; meditating "day and night" means
intentionally filtering our daily decisions and thoughts through the truth of
Scripture rather than the opinions of the world.
2.
GOD'S PEOPLE’S DELIGHT IN WORSHIPPING GOD IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH.
( John 4:22-23 ) [23]But the
hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in
spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
[24]God is a Spirit: and they that worship him
must worship him in spirit and in truth.
*Authentic
worship goes beyond outward rituals or emotional songs; it requires a sincere
heart (spirit) aligned with the accurate reality of who God is as revealed in
His Word (truth).
3.
GOD'S PEOPLE’S DELIGHT IN SERVING GOD ACCORDING TO THE GIFTS HE HAS GIVEN THEM.
( 1 Timothy 1:12-14 ) [12]And I
thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me
faithful, putting me into the ministry;
[13]Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor,
and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
[14]And the grace of our Lord was exceeding
abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
*Our
qualification for ministry does not come from our own perfection, but from
God's abundant grace, which empowers us to serve Him out of profound gratitude
for the mercy we have received.
4. GOD'S PEOPLE’S DELIGHT IN GIVING THEIR TITHES AND
OFFERINGS TO THE LORD.
( 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 ) [6]But this
I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth
bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
[7]Every man according as he purposeth in his
heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a
cheerful giver.
[8]And God is able to make all grace abound toward
you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every
good work:
*Generosity
is a reflection of the heart's trust in God's provision; when we give
cheerfully, we break the hold of materialism over our lives and release God's
supernatural supply.
5.
GOD'S PEOPLE’S DELIGHT IN WINNING LOST PEOPLE AT ANY COST AND AT EVERY
OPPORTUNITY GOD PROVIDES.
( Luke 10:1-3 ) [1]After
these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two
before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.
[2]Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly
is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest,
that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
[3]Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs
among wolves.
( Luke 15:3-7 ) [3]And he
spake this parable unto them, saying,
[4]What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he
lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go
after that which is lost, until he find it?
[5]And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his
shoulders, rejoicing.
[6]And when he cometh home, he calleth together
his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found
my sheep which was lost.
[7]I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in
heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just
persons, which need no repentance.
*Evangelism demands urgency and sacrifice because every
individual matters immensely to God; sharing the gospel allows us to
participate directly in the very joy that makes heaven rejoice.
6. GOD'S PEOPLE’S DELIGHT IN THE SOON COMING OF THE LORD
JESUS CHRIST.
( 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18 ) [14]For if
we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in
Jesus will God bring with him.
[15]For this we say unto you by the word of the
Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not
prevent them which are asleep.
[16]For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven
with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and
the dead in Christ shall rise first:
[17]Then we which are alive and remain shall be
caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so
shall we ever be with the Lord.
[18]Wherefore comfort one another with these
words.
*The
anticipation of Christ's return provides ultimate comfort and hope, anchoring
our souls through earthly trials with the eternal promise that we will be
reunited with loved ones and remain with the Lord forever.
Conclusion:
Ultimately,
what we delight in determines the direction of our lives.
When
our greatest joy is found in the Lord—through His Word, our worship, our
service, our giving, our witness, and our expectation of His return—we become
like the tree in Psalm 1: deeply rooted, unshakeable, and constantly bearing
fruit.
Let us
check our hearts daily to ensure that our deepest delight remains anchored in
Him.
