WHAT IS
GOD'S BASIS FOR PRONOUNCING THE BELIEVERS OF CHRIST “BLESSED” IN HIS EYES?
( Psalms 1:1-3 ) [1]Blessed
is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the
way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
[2]But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and
in his law doth he meditate day and night.
[3]And he shall be like a tree planted by the
rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also
shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
1. BELIEVERS
IN CHRIST ARE STRONG ENOUGH TO REJECT THE COUNCEL OF THE UNGODLY.
“Blessed
is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly…” (Psalm 1:1)
a. A
true believer does not look to the world’s philosophies, secular mindsets, or
ungodly advice to guide their life decisions. Instead, they rely strictly on
the wisdom of God.
Psalms 1:1-3 [1]Blessed
is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the
way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
[2]But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and
in his law doth he meditate day and night.
[3]And he shall be like a tree planted by the
rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also
shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
2.
BELIEVERS ARE BOLD TO STAND WITH CONVICTION AND WALK IN GOD'S LAW.
“…nor
standeth in the way of sinners…”
(Psalm 1:1)
a. To
"stand in the way" means to adopt the habits and lifestyle of
sinners. Believers have the moral courage to stand apart from the crowd.
b. King
David showed strong conviction in obeying what God commanded, and his
faithfulness set a powerful example for his family to follow.
( Psalms 128:1-4 ) [1]Blessed
is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.
[2]For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands:
happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.
[3]Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the
sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.
[4]Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that
feareth the LORD.
3. BELIEVERS DO NOT SIT WITH THE WRONG COMPANY OR ADOPT A
WICKED LIFESTYLE.
“…nor
sitteth in the seat of the scornful.”
(Psalm 1:1)
a. The
"scornful" are those who mock righteousness and approve of
wrongdoing.
b. As
believers in Christ, we do not align ourselves with, or sit in agreement with,
the sinful and worldly lifestyles of this generation.
* ( Ephesians 2:1-3 ) [2]Wherein
in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the
prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of
disobedience:
[3]Among whom also we all had our conversation in
times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and
of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
4. BELIEVERS DELIGHT IN THE LAW OF THE LORD.
“But
his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and
night.” (Psalm 1:2)
a. This
transformation is a conscious choice made by God’s people, who willingly allow
themselves to be guided and led by the Holy Spirit.
b. We
no longer see God's Word as a burden, but as a joy.
( John 16:13 ) Howbeit
when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he
shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak:
and he will shew you things to come.
5. BELIEVERS WHO FOLLOW THE STEPS OF JESUS ENJOY BOUNTIFUL
BLESSINGS.
( I Peter 2:21 ) For even
hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an
example, that ye should follow his steps:
a. The
Lord Jesus Christ consistently glorified the Father throughout His entire
earthly ministry.
( John 17:1-4 ) [1]These
words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour
is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
[2]As thou hast given him power over all flesh,
that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
[3]And this is life eternal, that they might know
thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
[4]I have glorified thee on the earth: I have
finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
b. The
early church in Jerusalem followed Christ's example by continually worshipping
and glorifying God in the temple.
( Acts 2:46-47 ) [46]And
they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from
house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
[47]Praising God, and having favour with all the
people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
Conclusion
Ultimately,
God rewards the believers of Christ with bountiful, enduring blessings. When we
walk in obedience, we become spiritually unshakeable, constantly nourished, and
deeply fruitful.
Psalms 1:3 [3]And he
shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his
fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth
shall prosper.
* God
bless you all always *
