THE TRUE
BLESSED MAN IN THE SIGHT OF GOD
( Psalms 1:1-2 ) [1]Blessed is the man that walketh
not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor
sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
[2]But his delight is in the law
of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Introduction:
* Blessed:
Heaven-approved; to be divinely favored by God.
1. THE BLESSED MAN’S COUNSEL – THE WORD OF GOD
Psalm 1:1-2 – Blessed is the man that walketh
not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor
sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
[2] But his delight is in the law
of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
a. They meditate on the Word of God morning and evening.
( Joshua 1:8 ) This book of the law shall not
depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that
thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then
thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
b. They choose to draw near to
God by reading His Word daily.
Psalms 73:28 But it is good for me to draw near
to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.
c. The blessed man is always
guided into all truth and given wisdom by the Holy Spirit.
( John 16:13 ) Howbeit when he, the Spirit of
truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of
himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew
you things to come.
2. THE BLESSED MAN’S CLEANSING BY THE GRACE OF GOD
Psalm 32:1-2 1. Blessed is he whose
transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
[2] Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord
imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.
a. The blessed are made clean through the Word of God.
( John 15:3 ) Now ye are clean through the word
which I have spoken unto you.
b. The blessed do not continue
practicing sin.
( 1John 3:8-10 ) [8]He that committeth sin is of
the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son
of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
[9]Whosoever is born of God doth
not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is
born of God.
[10]In this the children of God
are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness
is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
c. The blessed man admits his
sins and confesses them before God.
( 1John 1:7-9 ) [7]But if we walk in the light, as
he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus
Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
[8]If we say that we have no sin,
we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
[9]If we confess our sins, he is
faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
3. THE BLESSED MAN’S CONFIDENCE: TRUST IN GOD
( Psalm 34:8 ) O taste and see that the Lord is
good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
a. The blessed always put their trust in God, even in times of great trouble and helplessness.
( II Corinthians
1:4-10 ) [4]Who
comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which
are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
[5]For as the sufferings of Christ
abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.
[6]And whether we be afflicted, it
is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of
the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for
your consolation and salvation.
[7]And our hope of you is
stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be
also of the consolation.
[8]For we would not, brethren,
have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed
out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:
[9]But we had the sentence of
death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which
raiseth the dead:
[10]Who delivered us from so great
a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;
( Proverbs 3:5-6 ) [5]Trust in the LORD with all
thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
[6]In all thy ways acknowledge
him, and he shall direct thy paths.
4. THE BLESSED MAN’S COMMUNION AND FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD
(Psalm 65:4 ) Blessed is the man whom thou
choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts:
we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.
a. The blessed person chooses to have a living relationship with God.
( 1 John 1:3-7 ) [3]That which we have seen and
heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly
our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
[4]And these things write we unto
you, that your joy may be full.
[5]This then is the message which
we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no
darkness at all.
[6]If we say that we have
fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
[7]But if we walk in the light, as
he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus
Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
b. The Greatness of Communion:
* The Christian has fellowship with a holy and righteous God.
( 1 John 1:3 ) That which we have seen and heard
declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our
fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
* This is the greatest experience and choice a Christian can make.
1 John 1:3,5-7 [3]That which we have seen and
heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly
our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
* God promises to continually cleanse the Christian because they walk in
the light with Him.
5. THE BLESSED MAN’S CORRECTION AND INSTRUCTION FROM GOD
( Psalm 94:12 ) Blessed is the man whom thou
chastenest, O Lord, and teachest him out of thy law;
* The blessed man always chooses
God's instruction and correction. This is the source of our faith and godly
principles.
( II Timothy 3:15-17
) [15]And
that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make
thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
[16]All scripture is given by
inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for
correction, for instruction in righteousness:
[17]That the man of God may be
perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
* God’s instructions bring the fear
of the Lord into the Christian family.
( Psalms 128:1-6 ) [1] Blessed is every one that
feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.
[2]For thou shalt eat the labour
of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.
[3]Thy wife shall be as a fruitful
vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about
thy table.
[4]Behold, that thus shall the man
be blessed that feareth the LORD.
[5]The LORD shall bless thee out
of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.
[6]Yea, thou shalt see thy
children's children, and peace upon Israel.
* God bless you all always! *
