[K] [PREACHING LESSON 7:] YOUR LOVE FOR CHRIST DETERMINES YOUR RIGHT ATTITUDE TO GOD

JOHN 14:15 “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”

Introduction:

The Lord Jesus Christ reminded His disciples that loving the Lord God will give them the spiritual strength to obey God’s commandments.

I. DETERMINE YOUR OBEDIENCE TO GOD’S WORD

JOSHUA 1:8 “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

a.      King David is our good example of Christians who valued the word of God.

PSALMS 1:1-3 “Blessed [is] the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
Pss 1:2 But his delight [is] in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Pss 1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

b.      Our full obedience to the word of God promises prosperity and victorious Christian living.

PSALMS 1:3 “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

II. DETERMINE YOUR OBEDIENCE TO WORSHIP IN HIS TEMPLE

PSALMS 122:1 “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.”

a.      King David was always excited to worship God in His temple.

PSALMS 27:4 “One [thing] have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple.”

b.      Jerusalem Church is a good example of a local church who loves to worship God in His temple daily.

ACTS 2:46-47 “And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
Acts 2:47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.”

III. DETERMINE YOUR OBEDIENCE IN GIVING YOUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS TO THE LORD

MALACHI 3:8-10 “Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
Mal 3:9 Ye [are] cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, [even] this whole nation.
Mal 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that [there shall] not [be room] enough [to receive it].”

a.      God has promised to bless faithful Christians in their giving and protect our work and will call us blessed.

MALACHI 3:11-12 “And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts.
Mal 3:12 And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the Lord of hosts.”

Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.

IV. DETERMINE YOUR OBEDIENCE IN FULFILLING THE GREAT COMMISSION OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

JOHN 9:4-5 “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
Jn 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

a.      The Jerusalem Church followed the Lord Jesus Christ in winning the lost at any cost.

ACTS 11:20-23 “And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.
Acts 11:21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.
Acts 11:22 Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.
Acts 11:23 Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.”

V. DETERMINE YOUR OBEDIENCE TO GLORIFY GOD EVEN IN FACING SUFFERING IN THE CHRISTIAN LIFE

1PETER 4:14-16 “If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy [are ye]; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
1Pet 4:15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or [as] a thief, or [as] an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.
1Pet 4:16 Yet if [any man suffer] as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.”

a.      Paul was committed to finish his calling from God.

ACTS 20:22-24 “And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there:
Acts 20:23 Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.
Acts 20:24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.”

GOD BLESS YOU ALL ALWAYS
