[K] [PREACHING LESSON 1:] SO THANKFUL TO GOD THAT I BELONG TO A SOULWINNING CHURCH

1THESSALONIANS 1:1-2 “Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians [which is] in God the Father and [in] the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace [be] unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1Thes 1:2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers;”

Introduction:

a.    The church at Thessalonica was known to be a soulwinning church and Paul was so grateful that he was in the church that he valued the lost people.

1THESSALONIANS 1:3 “Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;”

b.    Paul started this church and trained them to be a soulwinning church. Evidence of this is that they were able to reach many places and share the gospel of Christ with their community.

Ø Paul gave them good comments that they are good example of a soulwinning church that they can able to saturate the neighbor community so that even Paul does not have to go to those communities.

1THESSALONIANS 1:7-8 “So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.
1Thes 1:8 For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.”

Four (4) reasons why we should thank the Lord in a soulwinning church:

I. SO THANKFUL TO GOD BECAUSE CHRIST ESTABLISHED THE FIRST CHURCH TO BE A SOULWINNING CHURCH

ACTS 5:28-29 “Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.
Acts 5:29 Then Peter and the [other] apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.”

a. The Lord Jesus Christ being the pastor of the church is a perfect example of being a soulwinner.

LUKE 19:10 “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

b. The Lord Jesus Christ was a faithful soulwinner during His earthly ministry. He won even the most wicked man. He won the even most criminal of the times on the cross of Calvary. He won even the most corrupt public officials of their time named Zacchaeus. He won even the most immoral woman of their time and many more individuals who are more wicked in their time.

LUKE 23:42-43 “And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
Lk 23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.”

LUKE 19:1-9 “And [Jesus] entered and passed through Jericho.
Lk 19:2 And, behold, [there was] a man named Zacchæus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
Lk 19:3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.
Lk 19:4 And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that [way].
Lk 19:5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchæus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.
Lk 19:6 And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.
Lk 19:7 And when they saw [it], they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.
Lk 19:8 And Zacchæus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore [him] fourfold.
Lk 19:9 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.”

c. The church in Jerusalem which was the first church established by Christ was a soulwinning church.

ACTS 2:41 “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added [unto them] about three thousand souls.”

II. SO THANKFUL TO GOD BECAUSE CHRIST SUPPORTS THE SOULWINNING CHURCH BY THE PRESENCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

JOHN 14:16-17 “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
Jn 14:17 [Even] the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”

JOHN 16:13 “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”

a. The Holy Spirit is our perfect partner for effectively winning lost people.

b. The Holy Spirit will give us power for effective and fruitful soulwinning.

III. SO THANKFUL TO GOD BECAUSE CHRIST SANCTIFIED THE LIFE OF THE CHRISTIAN FOR EFFECTIVE SOULWINNING

1PETER 3:15 “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and [be] ready always to [give] an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:”

a. So thankful to God because He will always clean the church to ensure that the church is fruitful.

JOHN 15:1-3 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
Jn 15:2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every [branch] that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
Jn 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.”

b. Thank God for being in a soulwinning church for we have all the reason to live a holy and clean life.

2TIMOTHY 2:21 “If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, [and] prepared unto every good work.”

JOHN 17:17 “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”

c. Praise God we can present our body before God as a living sacrifice and acceptable before God.

ROMANS 12:1 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service.”

IV. SO THANKFUL TO GOD BECAUSE CHRIST SUPPLIES ALL OUR NEEDS FOR BEING FAITHFUL IN SOULWINNING

PHILIPPIANS 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

a. The church at Philippi was a known supporter of Paul for the mission work and efforts of church evangelism.

PHILIPPIANS 4:15-16 “Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.
Php 4:16 For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.”

b. Christ promise to answer the prayer of the faithful and fruitful soulwinners.

JOHN 15:16 “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and [that] your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.”

Conclusion:

I am so grateful to God that our church is a soulwinning church and I rejoice in this blessing and in God's approval of His church.

ACTS 2:47 “Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.”
