[JJ] [PREACHING LESSON 11:] GOING TO HEAVEN OR HELL IS A CHOICE, NOT AN ACCIDENT

GOING TO HEAVEN OR HELL IS A CHOICE, NOT AN ACCIDENT

MATTHEW 7:13-14 "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."

Four reasons why eternity is a personal choice rather than an accident:

1. CHOOSING RELIGION AND TRADITION OVER CHRIST

Many choose to follow religious rituals and old traditions instead of believing in the Lord Jesus Christ as the only way to heaven.

John 14:6: "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me."

You cannot find salvation through religion or traditional practices; only a relationship with Christ can assure you of a place in heaven.

2. CHOOSING GOOD WORKS OVER THE FINISHED WORK OF CHRIST

Some try to rely on their own "goodness" and righteous deeds instead of trusting in what Christ accomplished on the Cross.

Titus 3:5: "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us..."

The Bible makes it clear that our own righteousness cannot save us. We are justified only by the blood of Christ.

3. CHOOSING EARTHLY RICHES OVER ETERNAL LIFE

Like the Rich Young Ruler in Luke 18:18-24, many choose their temporary wealth over the eternal life offered by Christ.

When asked to give up his riches to follow Jesus, the ruler went away sorrowful because he was very wealthy.

Choosing temporary riches over an everlasting life with Christ is a tragic exchange.

4. CHOOSING THE “BROAD WAY” OVER THE “STRAIT GATE”

Many choose the wide gate and the easy, broad road that leads to destruction rather than the narrow path that leads to life.

No one else can be blamed for a person's destination. God provides everyone the opportunity to hear the Gospel and experience His love.

John 3:16: "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son..."

Conclusion
Your decision today determines your destination. Will you choose the gift of God?
