Introduction:

a.    The name ‘Christian’ is a biblical name based on our text.

ACTS 11:26 “And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.”

1PETER 4:16 “Yet if [any man suffer] as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.”

b.    The name ‘Christian’ is a title name derived from the word ‘Christ’- meaning the Savior and we became Christians because of our personal experience in accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of our lives, and following Him in baptism in water.

Five (5) things about Christians based on what the Bible says:

I. THEY ARE THE BELIEVERS IN CHRIST

(Sila ang mga mananampalataya kay Kristo)

ACTS 16:30-31 “And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”

a.    We became Christians because we both heard the gospel of Christ and accepted Him as our Lord and Savior of our lives by placing our faith in Christ which is why we are called the believers of Christ.

ROMANS 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

b.    Those who believe in Christ are saved as God’s people and believe that the precious blood of Christ saves their souls.

1PETER 1:18-19 “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, [as] silver and gold, from your vain conversation [received] by tradition from your fathers;
1Pet 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”

II. THEY ARE FOLLOWERS (DISCIPLES) OF CHRIST

(Sila ay mga tagasunod (alagad) ni Kristo)

ACTS 11:26 “And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.”

a.    Disciples of Christ are faithful followers of Christ.

b.    The Lord Jesus called His disciples and they immediately followed Him.

MARK 1:17-18 “And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
Mk 1:18 And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.”

c.     We as disciples of Christ follow Him because we love Him.

III. THEY ARE RUNNERS OF CHRIST

(Sila ay mga mananakbo ni Cristo)

1CORINTHIANS 9:24-25 “Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
1Cor 9:25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they [do it] to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.”

a.    Christians are called runners of Christ and they will run and continue running until they will reach the finish line.

b.    Paul gave us his testimony of a faithful runner of Christ that he treat his Christian race a course in his life that need to finish.

2TIMOTHY 4:7 “I have fought a good fight, I have finished [my] course, I have kept the faith:”

c.     Some of the Christians ran their race with patience and finish it.

HEBREWS 12:1 “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,”

IV. THEY ARE CO-LABORERS OF CHRIST

(Sila ay mga katrabaho ni Kristo)

1CORINTHIANS 3:9 “For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, [ye are] God’s building.”

a.    Co-laborers are partners of Christ in His ministry. God has called, strenghtened and place us in the ministry.

1TIMOTHY 1:12 “And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;”

b.    God do not called many mighty, not many noble but called you and I being Christian even foolish and weak to confound the wise and mightyGod promises to answer the prayers of the righteous Christians.

1CORINTHIANS 1:26-27 “For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, [are called]:
1Cor 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;”

V. THEY ARE THE SOULWINNERS OF CHRIST

(Sila ay mga tagapag-akay ng kaluluwa kay Kristo)

LUKE 10:1-2 “After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.
Lk 10:2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly [is] great, but the labourers [are] few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.”

a.    The Lord Jesus Christ is our prime example of being a faithful soulwinner.

LUKE 19:10 “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

b.    Christ design His church to be a soulwinning church.

ACTS 5:42 “And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.”

CONCLUSION:

Christians are very precious people of God because they were bought by the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

ACTS 20:28 “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.”

GOD BLESS YOU ALL
