[II] [PREACHING LESSON 9:] PRAYER UNDER THE HOLY SPIRIT'S GUIDANCE

PRAYER UNDER THE HOLY SPIRIT'S GUIDANCE

(ROMANS 8:26) “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”

I. IT IS A PRAYER ALWAYS ACCORDING TO GOD’S WILL

(1 JOHN 5:14-15) “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.”

a. The Holy Spirit will guide the Christian in what is right and what the will of God is for His people. (JOHN 16:13) “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”

II. IT IS A PRAYER ALWAYS FOR GOD’S GLORY AND PRAISE

(1 THESSALONIANS 5:16-18) “Rejoice evermore. 17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

a. God is glorified when Christians show excitement in worshipping Him.

(PSALMS 122:1) “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.”

b. God is glorified in the Church through united prayer within the local congregation.

(ACTS 1:13-15) (Summary: The disciples and the women continued with one accord in prayer and supplication.)

III. IT IS A PRAYER ALWAYS FOR THE SALVATION OF LOST SINNERS

(ROMANS 10:1) “Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.”

a. It is always God's desire that the lost be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.

(1 TIMOTHY 2:4) “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”

b. The church in Jerusalem is a good example of a soul-winning church. (ACTS 2:41) “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.”

IV. IT IS A PRAYER FOR CHRISTIANS TO CONTINUE ACQUIRING WISDOM FROM GOD

(COLOSSIANS 1:9) “For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;”

a. The wisdom of God leads Christians to walk worthy of the Lord and to be pleasing to Him. (COLOSSIANS 1:10) “That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;”

b. The wisdom of God brings spiritual strength to His people. (COLOSSIANS 1:11) “Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;”

V. IT IS A PRAYER FOR GREAT REVIVAL IN THE LOCAL CHURCH

(2 CHRONICLES 7:14) “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

a. Great revival is experienced by the Church when the hand of God is moving and working within the local congregation.

(ACTS 11:20-23) (Summary: The hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number believed.)

b. Revival brings total growth to the Church.

(ACTS 6:6-7) “...And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly...”

GOD BLESS YOU ALL ALWAYS
