THE KIND OF PRAYER GOD WANTS TO HEAR FROM
HIS PEOPLE
(1 JOHN 5:14-15) “And this is
the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his
will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we
know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.”
Introduction:
a. God answers
the prayers of Christians when they are made according to His will.
b. God does not
answer prayers intended to satisfy the lusts of the flesh. As the Word of God
says:
(JAMES 4:3) “Ye ask, and
receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume [it] upon your lusts.”
The Kind of
Prayers God Answers:
1. PRAYER
FOR THE SALVATION OF THE LOST
(ROMANS 10:1) “Brethren,
my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.”
a. Paul prayed
for the salvation of his fellow Israelites; because this is God's will, it is
sure to be answered.
b. It is God the
Father's great desire that all people be saved and come to the knowledge of the
truth.
(1 TIMOTHY 2:4) “Who will
have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”
c. The church in Jerusalem is an
example of a local church that prayed unitedly for the people in their
community to be saved. (ACTS 1:14-15, 2:41)
2. PRAYER
FOR KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM
(2 CHRONICLES 1:10-12) Solomon
asked for wisdom to lead God's people rather than riches or long life, and God
granted it abundantly.
a. King Solomon
prayed for wisdom and knowledge, and God granted his request—along with the
things he did not even ask for.
b. God wants all
Christians to acquire wisdom and knowledge for their spiritual maturity.
(COLOSSIANS 1:9) “...desire
that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and
spiritual understanding;”
c. Christians are
protected from falling into sin by possessing divine wisdom and knowledge.
(PSALMS 119:11) “Thy word
have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”
3. PRAYER
FOR YOUR DAILY NEEDS
(MATTHEW 6:11) “Give us
this day our daily bread.”
a. Jabez is a
great example of a believer who asked God for his basic needs and protection,
and God granted his request.
(1 CHRONICLES 4:10) “...And God
granted him that which he requested.”
4. PRAYER
FOR THE CONFESSION OF SIN
(1 JOHN 1:9) “If we
confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to
cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
a. Asking for the
forgiveness of sin is a key to having our prayers heard and our needs met.
(JAMES 5:16) “Confess
your faults one to another... The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man
availeth much.”
5. PRAYER
FOR MORE LABORERS IN THE HARVEST OF SOULS
(LUKE 10:2) “Therefore
said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray
ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into
his harvest.”
God bless you all
always!
