THE IMPORTANCE OF PREACHING HELL
( II Timothy 4:2 ) Preach the
word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all
long suffering and doctrine.
Why is
it important to always preach hell on the pulpit of every Bible-believing
church?
a.
It's Biblical
b.
Hell is seldom preached on the pulpit of any Bible-believing church; that makes
the pulpit cold and dry, leaving Christians unchallenged to urgently win the
lost.
Reasons
why HELL should always be preached:
1.
Preaching Hell on the pulpit forewarns the lost people that Hell is no joke—IT is REAL
In Luke 16:22-25, the inexorable end comes to both Lazarus and the rich man, as it
will to every one of us: they die. The rich man went to Hell, where there are
fire and torment. The Bible says, "...And in hell he lifts up his eyes,
being in torments." Hell is an everlasting judgment for those who reject
hearing and obeying the gospel of Christ.
(Luke 16:22-25) Lk 16:22
And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into
Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
Lk 16:23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in
torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
Lk 16:24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham,
have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in
water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
Lk 16:25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou
in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things:
but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
(II Thessalonians 1:8-9) [8]In
flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the
gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
[9]Who shall be punished with everlasting
destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
(Revelation 21:8) But the
fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers,
and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake
which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
2.
Preaching hell on the pulpit fires the Christians up to go and win the lost.
Hell
must be preached to awaken Christians. People all around us are going to hell.
They are getting closer to the flames every day. But Christians are still
asleep; we don't realize what peril they are in.
It may
be someone very near and dear to you. If you can only see their lost condition
and how hell is waiting for them, maybe you'll start praying and working and
get going to win them.
(Romans1:14-16 ) 14. I am
debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the
unwise.
15. So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach
the gospel to you that are at Rome also.
16. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ:
for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the
Jew first, and also to the Greek.
3. Preaching hell on the pulpit fortifies (strengthens)
the soul-winning campaign inside the local church.
( Acts16:5 ) And so were
the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.
Pastors
should preach on hell in order to remind their churches that there are eternal
consequences that attach to sin and unbelief; thus, the need to strengthen our soul-winning
program in our local churches is a must if we want our Sunday services and even
our other church events to be assured of a good harvest of lost people.
(Acts 2:41) Then they
that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added
unto them about three thousand souls.
(Acts 6:4-7) [4]But we
will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
[5]And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and
they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and
Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of
Antioch:
[6]Whom they set before the apostles: and when
they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
[7]And the word of God increased; and the number
of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the
priests were obedient to the faith.
*The Jerusalem church was a good example.
4.
Preaching hell on the pulpit fosters the sharing of the gospel of Christ to the
regions beyond.
(Phil.1:12) But I would
ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have
fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;
(John4:35) Say not ye,
There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you,
Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to
harvest.
(Proverbs 29:18 ) Where there
is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
Preaching
hell on the pulpit gives the church the biblical vision to further the sharing
of the gospel of Christ to the whole world. Preaching hell reminds us that
there is no more urgent task than proclaiming to the world the good news that
forgiveness of sin is offered through Jesus Christ!
( Mathew 28:19-20 ) [19]Go ye
therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and
of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
[20]Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever
I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the
world. Amen.
Preaching
on hell magnifies our view of what Jesus accomplished for us. The existence of
hell heightens our amazement at God’s love and forgiveness: if this is what we
deserve, how amazing is God’s love displayed in saving sinners!
Do you
want to see more lost people being saved—every week...every day...? Every minute.
*God
bless you all always*
