[G] [PREACHING LESSON 2:] LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION

LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION

Matthew 6:13: "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen."

Introduction:

The Lord's Prayer serves as an example to every genuine Christian. Every Christian should pray this way because if Jesus was tempted by the Devil, Christians will also be tempted. We all face temptations.

James 1:13-15: "Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death."

We will all be tempted to do what is wrong; we cannot avoid temptation. However, God has designed a way for the temptation we face to be reduced drastically.

1 Corinthians 10:13: "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."

As we ask Him, He will give us victory over temptation.

Five Important Things to Know About This Prayer

1. THE PRAYER ACKNOWLEDGES THAT OUR FLESH IS WEAK.

Romans 8:4-8 Rom 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Rom 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

Rom 8:6 For to be carnally minded [is] death; but to be spiritually minded [is] life and peace.

Rom 8:7 Because the carnal mind [is] enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

Rom 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

2. THE PRAYER ACKNOWLEDGES THAT OUR FORMER FATHER, THE DEVIL, IS WORKING TO DECEIVE US.

John 8:44 Jn 8:44 Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

John 10:10: "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."

3. THE PRAYER ACKNOWLEDGES THAT OUR FLESH WILL OVERCOME TEMPTATION BY THE HELP OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Galatians 5:16, 25: "Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit."

4. THE PRAYER ACKNOWLEDGES OUR FIRM FAITH IN GOD WILL BE REWARDED WITH VICTORY OVER TEMPTATION.

Matthew 26:41: "Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."

1 John 5:4-5: "For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith."

5. THE PRAYER ACKNOWLEDGES THAT OUR FIRST LOVE IS JESUS CHRIST, LEADING US TO ALWAYS OBEY HIM IN OUR CHRISTIAN LIFE.

(John 14:15) "If ye love me, keep my commandments."

(2 Corinthians 5:14) "For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead."

Conclusion

(Matthew 6:13) "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen."

God bless you all always
