THE MAKING
OF BEING A TRUE SERVANT OF CHRIST
GALATIANS 5:13 "For, brethren, ye have been called unto
liberty; only [use] not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve
one another."
Introduction:
According to Galatians 5:13 "we are to
serve one another." Other Scriptures including Ephesians 2:10 and Titus
3:8 would verify that the Christian Life is one of service.
EPHESIANS 2:10 "For we are his workmanship, created in
Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should
walk in them."
TITUS 3:8 "[This is] a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou
affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to
maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men."
Even the Great Commission indicates that
Christians are to serve. Matthew 28:19-20 tells us to teach all nations, to
baptize and to teach those who have trusted Christ.
MATTHEW 28:19-20 "Go ye therefore, and
teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Ghost: Mt 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever
I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the
world. Amen."
All three of these actions are ways of
serving others. Let us consider how we can improve our serve, the way we work
in behalf of others.
1. ACKNOWLEDGE CHRIST'S EXAMPLE
JOHN 13:14-17 "If I then, [your] Lord and Master, have
washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. Jn 13:15 For I have
given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. Jn 13:16 Verily,
verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he
that is sent greater than he that sent him. Jn 13:17 Ifue know these things,
happy are ye if ue do them."
a. "...The servant is not greater than
his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him."
b. Our Lord Jesus set the example of service
by taking on the lowly task of washing the Disciples' feet. He also indicated that His disciples were to
follow His example.
c. God the Father continue to shape the life
of the Christians using the life example of the Lord Jesus Christ as the right
model.
EPHESIANS 2:10 "For we are his workmanship, created in
Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should
walk in them."
1 PETER 2:21 "For even hereunto were ye called: because
Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his
steps:"
2. ACCEPT THE FACT THAT JESUS WANTS YOU TO BE
A SERVANT
MARK 10:42-45 "But Jesus called them [to him], and saith
unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles
exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them.
Mk 10:43 But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among
you, shall be your minister: Mk 10:44 And whosoever of you will be the
chiefest, shall be servant of all. Mk 10:45 For even the Son of man came not to
be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many."
a. The Lord Jesus Christ calls and uses saved
people to be His servant and perform His great ministry.
2 TIMOTHY 1:9 "Who hath saved us, and called [us] with an
holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and
grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,"
b. Christ do not use the noble and mighty
people in this world to serve Him and perform His great work.
1 CORINTHIANS 1:26-29 "For ye see your
calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty,
not many noble, [are called]: 1Cor 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things
of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the
world to confound the things which are mighty; 1Cor 1:28 And base things of the
world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, [yea], and things which
are not, to bring to nought things that are: 1Cor 1:29 That no flesh should
glory in his presence."
c. The Lord Jesus Christ has chosen His
disciple to be His co-laborers in His vineyard and encourage us to be a
fruitful servant.
JOHN 15:16 "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen
you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and [that] your
fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he
may give it you."
3. ATTAIN THE ATTITUDE OF A SERVANT
JOHN 14:15 "If ye love me, keep my commandments."
a. A good attitude of the servant of Christ
is being obedient to His Lord and that is the manifestation of our love to Him.
b. A good servant is called to be a good
soldier of the Lord Jesus Christ.
2 TIMOTHY 2:3-4 "Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good
soldier of Jesus Christ. 2Tim 2:4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with
the affairs of [this] life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a
soldier."
c. The genuine servant of Christ is loyal and
faithful servant to His Lord.
PHILIPPIANS 1:6 "Being confident of this very thing, that he
which hath begun a good work in you will perform [it] until the day of Jesus
Christ:"
4. ACT AS A SERVANT OF CHRIST
GALATIANS 5:13-14 "For, brethren, ye have
been called unto liberty; only [use] not liberty for an occasion to the flesh,
but by love serve one another. Gal 5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one
word, [even] in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
a. To act as a servant of Christ is to serve
others in Love.
2 CORINTHIANS 5:14 "For the love of Christ
constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all
dead:"
b. Paul acted as good servant of the Lord
Jesus Christ to be effective in winning so many lost people.
1 CORINTHIANS 9:19 "For though I be free
from all [men], yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the
more."
5. THE ACTION OF SERVANTHOOD IS VERY EFFECTIVE IN WINNING
LOST PEOPLE.
( 1 Corinthians 9:19-22 ) [19]For though I be free from
all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
[20]And
unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are
under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
[21]To them
that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under
the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
[22]To the
weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all
men, that I might by all means save some.
* God bless you all always *
