[FF] [PREACHING LESSON 14:] THE GREAT POTENTIAL FOR THE CHRISTIAN TO SERVE THE LORD.

THE GREAT POTENTIAL FOR THE CHRISTIAN TO SERVE THE LORD.

( Acts 11:21-26 ) Acts 11:21-26

[21]And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.

[22]Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.

[23]Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.

[24]For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.

[25]Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:

[26]And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

( 1 Peter 4:15-16 ) [15]But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.

[16]Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

10 GREAT POTENTIALS OF THE CHRISTIAN THAT ARE THAT CALLED THEM TO SERVE THE LORD.

1. WE ARE CALLED THE CHILDREN OF GOD TO SERVE HIM

( John 1:12-13 ) [12]But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

[13]Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

2. WE ARE CALLED THE FRIEND OF CHRIST TO SERVE HIM.

( John 15:13-16 ) [13]Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

[14]Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

[15]Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

[16]Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

3. WE ARE CALLED CO-LABORERS OF GOD TO SERVE HIM.

(1 Corinthians 3:9-10) [9]For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.

[10]According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.

4. WE ARE CALLED THE AMBASSADORS OF CHRIST TO SERVE HIM.

( II Corinthians 5:19-20 ) [19]To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

[20]Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

5. WE ARE CALLED THE DISCIPLES OF CHRIST AND ARE CALLED CHRISTIANS TO SERVE HIM.

( Acts 11:24-25 ) [21]And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.

* ( I Peter 4:15-16 ) [15]But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.

[16]Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

6. WE ARE CALLED EVANGELISTS TO PREACH OR SHARE THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST TO LOST PEOPLE.

(2 Timothy 4:1-5) [1]I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;

[2]Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

[3]For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

[4]And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

[5]But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

7. WE ARE CALLED MORE THAN CONQUERORS TO SERVE HIM.

( Romans 8:35-37 ) Rom 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? [shall] tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

Rom 8:36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

Rom 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

8. WE ARE CALLED A PECULIAR PEOPLE OF GOD TO SERVE HIM.

( IPeter 2. 9-10 ) [9]But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

[10]Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

9. WE ARE CALLED MORE CONQUERORS OF GOD TO SERVE HIM.

( Romans 8:35-39 ) [35]Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

[36]As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

[37]Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

[38]For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

[39]Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

10. WE ARE CALLED TO BE VICTORIOUS CHRISTIANS, AND WE ALL SERVE HIM.

( I Corinthians 15:57-58 ) [57]But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

[58]Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

*( 1 John 5:4-5 ) [4]For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

[5]Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

* To God be the glory. *
