[A] [PREACHING LESSON 17:] THE BLESSED LIFE OF THE CHRISTIAN IS NOT AN ACCIDENT BUT A CHOICE

PSALMS 1:1-3 “Blessed [is] the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
Pss 1:2 But his delight [is] in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Pss 1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

Panimula:

1. THEY WERE BLESSED BECAUSE THEY CHOSE TO DELIGHT IN THE LAW OF THE LORD
PSALMS 1:2 “But his delight [is] in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”

PSALMS 1:3 “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”
JOSHUA 1:8 “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

2. THEY WERE BLESSED BECAUSE THEY CHOOSE TO FEAR GOD IN THEIR LIFE
PSALMS 128:1-2 “Blessed [is] every one that feareth the Lord; that walketh in his ways.
Pss 128:2 For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy [shalt] thou [be], and [it shall be] well with thee.”

PSALMS 128:2-5 “For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy [shalt] thou [be], and [it shall be] well with thee.
Pss 128:3 Thy wife [shall be] as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.
Pss 128:4 Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord.
Pss 128:5 The Lord shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.”

3. THEY WERE BLESSED BECAUSE THEY CHOSE TO WALK A HOLY LIFE
PSALMS 119:1 “Blessed [are] the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord.”

PSALMS 11:7 “For the righteous Lord loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.”

1PETER 1:15-16 “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
1Pet 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”

4. THEY WERE BLESSED BECAUSE THEY CHOSE TO BE PERSECUTED FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS’ SAKE
MATTHEW 5:3 “Blessed [are] the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

JOHN 17:14-15 “I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
Jn 17:15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.”

Pangwakas:
MATTHEW 5:3-7 “Blessed [are] the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Mt 5:4 Blessed [are] they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Mt 5:5 Blessed [are] the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Mt 5:6 Blessed [are] they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Mt 5:7 Blessed [are] the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.”
